Our clubs and groups

We host a vibrant mix of clubs, groups, and activities—from reading and walking groups to lunch and supper clubs, arts and crafts, gardening, and cinema outings. We also organise day trips, including occasional visits to the theatre and The Box. Our calendar is always evolving, and we love hearing new ideas from our members.

Book Club

“Books are a uniquely portable magic.” Stephen King

Our book club meets monthly on a Thursday afternoon or evening, rotating meetings at members' homes and gardens. Each hostess chooses a book for discussion, and offers her refreshment of choice. We welcome new members and value everyone's opinion.

“Be awesome! Be a book nut!” — Dr. Seuss

Walking Group

Walking: the most ancient exercise and still the best modern exercise.” – Carrie Latet.

We’re a WI walking group based in beautiful South Devon, where we love to explore the stunning coastlines, countryside paths, and hidden gems of our local area. Our walking group usually meets monthly on a Friday, but the day may change depending on circumstances.

My grandmother started walking five miles a day when she was sixty. She's ninety-seven now, and we don't know where the hell she is.” - Ellen DeGeneres

Art/Craft Club

This is an evolving member-led group that lets creativity thrive. Bring along your decoupage, paintings, craft projects or ideas. Whatever you fancy or choose to inspire. Visit exhibitions together or collaborate for future gatherings.

Our July 2025 WI Speaker, Louise from Stitch and Splodge, inspired some members to learn crochet and print making.

Some painters transform the sun into a yellow spot, others transform a yellow spot into the sun.” - Pablo Picasso

We don’t make mistakes, just happy little accidents.”  Bob Ross

Gardening Club

From a small seed a mighty trunk may grow.” -Aeschylus

No garden? No problem! Whether you're a seasoned gardener or simply enjoy admiring plants, you're warmly invited to join us. You don’t need to know plant names in English or Latin—just bring along your love for nature.

Come along if you enjoy:

  • Gardening or learning about plants
  • Visiting beautiful gardens
  • Sharing ideas and inspiration
  • Tea, cake, and good company...

Like a garden, our group grows and changes with the seasons. We explore garden centres, attend talks, and visit special gardens that may only open on select days. Every meeting is shaped by our members’ interests and suggestions—so your ideas are always welcome.

Come grow with us!

Lunch and Supper Club

The Lunch and Supper Club is a delicious way to connect with fellow members over good food and lively conversation. These ladies mainly lunch on Tuesdays, but occasionally switch days to be more inclusive. Around twice a year, they organise a relaxed supper evening, and an annual cream tea adds a sweet touch to the calendar. Members suggest venues with an adventurous spirit—keen to explore new menus, try different cuisines, and enjoy each other’s company.

“Food tastes better when you eat it with friends.”Anonymous

Film and Theatre Group

Our Film and Theatre Group offers members the chance to enjoy shared cultural outings, from thought-provoking films at Plymouth Arts Centre and other local cinemas to live theatre performances across the city. These occasional trips are a wonderful way to be entertained while socialising with fellow members. Whether you're drawn to drama, comedy, or something in between, there's always room for a good story and great company.

"The play was a great success, but the audience was a disaster." Oscar Wilde
