Welcome to Elburton
Welcome to Elburton
Our meetings are normally held on the first Thursday of each month and meet in Elburton Village Hall. We start at 7.30 p.m. and aim to finish by 9.45p.m.
Fees are paid annually in January, currently £42 (set by the National Federation) which includes your subscription to 10 editions of the WI Life Magazine which is delivered to your home. It also includes insurance whilst attending WI events for members under 85 years old, and membership to the Village Hall. There is also a Devon Federation monthly newsletter. Although the cost is normally 20p a copy, our WI has decided to pay for these out of club funds. We charge 50p a meeting for coffee/tea and biscuits, payable at the door.
Members can attend 11 meetings each year in addition to our annual meeting in April and we enjoy many activities within our varied programme. At our monthly meetings we have speakers whose subjects cover a variety of topics, some serious, some fun and some entertaining whilst others are educational. We have refreshments mid-way through the evening, which provides an opportunity for chatting to people and for developing friendships. Our August meeting may be organised by our members, an opportunity for the committee to take a break from organising things! This year's members evening was a 1940's evening with members dressing up.
Our December meeting is usually along the lines of a party atmosphere with music provided by local musicians or groups.
We also arrange other activities, outside the monthly meetings. These may include coach trips, eating out, beach cleans and coffee mornings. We also have a walking group which usually ends up with a visit to a coffee shop. If there is sufficient interest other groups may also be formed. We have also held workshops for a variety of interests from Thai Chi to flower arranging.

There are opportunities to join in with events arranged by the Devon Federation of WI's which may include, visits to areas of interest, special talks, quizzes, sporting activities and holidays.
Each month we also have 2 competitions, a themed one, usually linked to our speakers subject and a bloom of the month. At the end of each year the overall competition winners for each is presented with a small prize.
We also undertake to do some fundraising including a week running the coffee bar at Harewood House, where we sell cakes, sandwiches and bric-a-brac.
