About Honiton WI

Welcome to HONITON EVENING WI

Our meetings are normally held on the third Tuesday of each month and meet in Honiton Methodist Church. We start at 7.15 p.m. and aim to finish at 9.45p.m.

Fees are paid annually in January, currently £43 (set by the National Federation WI) which includes your subscription to 10 editions of the WI Life Magazine which is delivered to your home. There is also a Devon Federation monthly newsletter. The cost is 25p, however our WI has decided to pay for these out of club funds.

Members are entitled to 11 meetings a year and we enjoy many activities within our programme. At our monthly meetings we have speakers whose subjects cover a variety of topics, some serious, some fun and some involve hands-on projects. We may have quizzes and games or bring "food to share". We have refreshments mid-way through the evening, which provides an opportunity for chatting to people and for developing friendships. One monthly meeting may be organised by our members – the 12th meeting, an opportunity for the committee to take a break from organising things!

We also arrange other activities, outside the monthly meetings. These may  include coach trips, eating out, coffee mornings, afternoon teas and theatre trips. Some of these activities may be for fund raising. We also have a walking group, a crochet and natter group, patchwork and art groups. If there is sufficient interest other groups may also be formed.

There are opportunities to join in with events arranged by the Devon Federation of WI's which may include, visits to areas of interest, special talks, quizzes, sporting activities and holidays. In additional an annual outing is arranged by the local group of WI's and twice a year this group of WI's hold special meetings.

We also have 2 monthly competitions, a themed one and a flower of the month. At the end of each year the overall competitions winner is presented with a small prize and has the honour of taking home (to clean!) the "silver fruit dish". The winner of "flower of the month" likewise receives a "silver cup".

We also sell raffle tickets (prizes kindly donated by members) to raise additional funds. Fund raising is an important activity, but more importantly it is an opportunity to get to know other members better.

In other words, there is a lot you can get involved in
within the WI – it's up to you
